About Vein Care

Helping the look of your legs. Vein Care That Delivers More

At Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph, we don’t just treat the symptoms of varicose veins, we identify the underlying issues behind the problem. Then we offer a variety of spider vein and varicose vein treatment services. It’s important to note that varicose veins can be more than a cosmetic issue. Failing valves in the primary veins allow blood to pool up in the legs causing varicose veins – often accompanied by discomfort, leg fatigue and swelling.

Our experienced vein clinic team will help improve your health, reduce the appearance of varicose veins, and reduce leg pain caused by venous disease. Plus, our vein-care procedures are performed by the only board-certified vascular surgeons in St. Joseph and the surrounding area.

Financial Assistance

We offer reasonable rates and accept most insurance plans. If you're unsure of anxious about how to cover the costs of these procedures, we also offer financial assistance to those who qualify.

Treatments and Procedures

Mosaic Vein Care offers a variety of non-invasive spider vein and varicose vein treatment options that go straight to treating the underlying cause. These solutions are minimally invasive, provide fast and mild recovery and are covered by most insurance providers.

Ultrasound

You may need an ultrasound to assess the conditions of your veins. Ultrasounds are safe, painless and produce pictures of the inside of the body using sound waves. Ultrasound examinations do not use ionizing radiation (as used in x-rays), thus there is no radiation exposure. Because ultrasound images are captured in real-time, they can show the structure and movement of the body's internal organs, as well as blood flowing through blood vessels.

Compression Stockings

Compression stockings help increase blood flow and reduce swelling, pain and fatigue in the legs. These support garments must be carefully measured to fit your legs to provide the correct amount of compression for your symptoms. Compression stockings also provide support after treatment and can help slow venous disease progression.

Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy is a non-surgical procedure where a concentrated solution is injected through a small needle causing the vein to be collapsed. This treatment is for smaller veins. Doctors sometimes use an ultrasound to help visualize the diseased veins for greater accuracy.

Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA)

This procedure heats the vein wall using temperature-controlled radiofrequency to shrink and seal the problem vein. Once the vein is closed, the body reroutes blood to healthy veins.

Ambulatory Phlebectomy

Ambulatory Phlebectomy is an outpatient procedure for removing bulging, surface veins. This procedure usually takes less than 2 hours and requires no stitches. It requires little downtime and patients can expect to resume normal activities right away.

Laser Therapy

Laser therapy can be used to treat spider veins and small varicose veins. During laser therapy, a laser light is directed at the vein. Small spider veins may disappear immediately after treatment. Larger spider and varicose veins will darken and disappear in one to three months. Multiple treatments might be needed. Most patients can return to work or most normal activities the next day.

Conditions We Treat

Sometimes your legs just don’t look as good as you’d like them to. That’s why we offer a variety of services designed to help your legs look the way you want.

Spider veins

Spider veins are tiny, thin veins that vary in color and are visible just under the surface of your skin. They often resemble spider webs or have sometimes been described as looking like marble. Spider veins are primarily a cosmetic issue.

Leg pain and varicose veins

Varicose veins often cause pain that feels like aching, cramping, tiredness, restlessness, burning, throbbing, tingling or heaviness. Varicose veins are most commonly found in the legs and are caused by unhealthy valves inside the veins that impede the normal flow of blood back to the heart. Blood pools in the veins and enlarges them.

While elevating your legs or wearing support stockings can help the symptoms of leg pain and varicose veins, effective treatment requires our help.

What To Expect

From start to finish, we’re here to help make your visit and treatment as smooth as possible.

Preparing For Your Visit

Please call (816) 271-8150 to set up an appointment. Then keep the following things in mind as you prepare for your visit:

  • We accept self-refer appointments and referrals from your primary care doctor. You can make your initial appointment by phone or by filling out our Appointment Request Form.
  • When you schedule your appointment, confirm the location and where to park. Also be sure to ask what information you need to bring with you (insurance card, medical records, list of current medications, etc.).
  • Please bring any records documenting any previous vein work done, including where it was done, by whom, when, what, etc. If you do not have this information, we can (with your written consent) contact the practice where this work was done.
  • Make note of your symptoms, concerns and questions and be prepared to speak with your doctor about these issues.
  • If you need assistance, consider bringing a friend or family member with you.
  • Arrive early and dress appropriately.
  • Be prepared to take notes during your appointment so you fully understand your doctor’s instructions and suggested next steps.

Initial Consultation

At your first appointment, one of our vein care nurse practitioners will do an assessment of your situation. We will most likely order an ultrasound as well to get a better idea of what is going on with your legs. This ultrasound is ultimately read by the surgeon who will perform your procedure if one is needed.

At the conclusion of your initial appointment, you will receive a complimentary pair of prescription-strength compression stockings. We will also schedule a follow-up appointment to review your progress, ultrasound results and design a plan for you. We will then schedule any needed procedures.

Patient forms and guidelines

To help expedite your first appointment, you can fill out your initial paperwork at home and submit online or print and bring it with you to your appointment/consultation.
