Avoid swimmers' itch: Watch where you swim

Swimmer's itch is an itchy rash caused by certain parasites that normally live on waterfowl and freshwater snails. To reduce your risk of swimmer's itch, avoid swimming in shallow areas of freshwater lakes or in areas where swimmer's itch is a known problem. Although uncomfortable, swimmer's itch typically clears up on its own within a few days.
