The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved these tricyclic antidepressants to treat depression:
- Amitriptyline
- Amoxapine
- Desipramine (Norpramin)
- Doxepin
- Imipramine (Tofranil)
- Nortriptyline (Pamelor)

- Trimipramine
The FDA approved the tetracycline antidepressant maprotiline to treat depression.
