Achilles tendinitis

Overview

Achilles tendinitis is an overuse injury of the Achilles tendon, a band of tissue connecting the calf muscle at the back of the lower leg to the heel bone. It's common in runners and middle-aged people who play sports only on the weekends.

Treatments

Treatment usually involves at-home care under a doctor's supervision. Tendon tears may need surgery.
