Atheroma

Overview

An atheroma is a mass of fats, cholesterol, and other substances (plaque) in and on artery walls. Atheromas restrict blood flow. They can also burst, triggering a blood clot.

Treatments

A healthy diet and exercise can help reduce plaque. Treatments include medications, procedures to flatten plaque and hold arteries open, and surgery.
