Cauda equina syndrome


Overview

Cauda equina syndrome is a serious condition in which the nerves at the end of the spinal cord are compressed. These nerve roots control the bladder, bowel, and legs.

Symptoms

Pain or numbness in the legs, buttocks, and inner thighs, and loss of bladder or bowel control are symptoms.

Treatments

Surgery, radiation, or corticosteroids may be needed urgently.
