Galactosemia


Overview

Galactosemia is a condition in which the body can't use a simple sugar, galactose, to produce energy. Galactose is part of lactose, which is found in all dairy products and many baby formulas.

Symptoms

Affected babies may have feeding problems, fatigue, and low or no weight gain. Infection can occur.

Treatments

Treatment includes a low-galactose diet.
