Hantavirus

Overview

Hantaviruses can cause potentially fatal infections, such as hantavirus pulmonary syndrome. Infection occurs by breathing air that's infected by rodent urine and droppings.

Symptoms

Initial symptoms include fever, muscle ache and fatigue. Later symptoms include a cough and trouble breathing.

Treatments

Because treatment options are limited, the best protection is to avoid rodents and their habitats.
