Herpes labialis


Overview

Oral herpes (herpes labialis) is an infection with herpes simplex virus around the border of the lips.

Symptoms

It causes tiny, fluid-filled lesions called cold sores or fever blisters. Oral herpes spreads through close personal contact, such as kissing. Blisters can recur.

Treatments

Medications can speed healing and reduce recurrence.
