Herpes simplex


Overview

Herpes simplex virus (HSV) is a contagious virus. HSV can spread through contact with the virus on the skin, including through intercourse and oral sex.

Symptoms

It causes blisters on and around the lips (cold sores), the genitals or both. Blisters can recur, often triggered by stress.

Treatments

Antiviral drugs can speed healing and reduce recurrence.
