Hives

Overview

Hives, itchy welts on the skin, are typically an allergic reaction to certain foods, medications, or other irritants.

Symptoms

Hives can be red or flesh-colored and small to several inches across. Difficulty breathing or swallowing is a medical emergency.

Treatments

Hives usually clear on their own in 24 hours. Antihistamines can help.
