Hypernatremia


Overview

Hypernatremia most often occurs in people who don't drink enough water. This is usually because of impaired thirst or mental judgment. Examples include someone with dementia or an infant who has limited access to fluids.

Symptoms

Symptoms include restlessness, irritability, lethargy, muscular twitching, or delirium.

Treatments

Treatment may include drinking more water or IV fluids.
