Overview

Hyperthyroidism is the production of too much thyroxine hormone by the butterfly-shaped gland in the neck (thyroid).

Symptoms

The result is sudden weight loss, rapid or irregular heartbeat, sweating, and irritability.

Treatments

Treatments include radioactive iodine, medications, and sometimes surgery.
