Hypocalcemia

Overview

Hypocalcemia can be caused by lack of vitamin D. It can also signal a condition of the four small glands in the neck (parathyroid glands) or chronic kidney disease.

Symptoms

Symptoms include muscle cramps, confusion, depression and tingling in the lips and fingers.

Treatments

Treatment may include calcium and vitamin D supplements. If hypocalcemia is caused by an underlying condition, that condition also will need to be treated.
