When to make a doctor’s appointment
Make an appointment to see a doctor if:
- Accompanied by redness or swelling
- There's warmth around the joint
- Interferes with ability to complete daily tasks

Regular exercise helps mobility and flexibility, decreases pain, and doesn't cause damage. Low-impact activities, ice packs, and over-the-counter pain relievers also help.
When to seek immediate medical care
See a doctor immediately if:
- Intense pain or joint deformity
- Sudden swelling
- The joint no longer moves
