Laryngitis

Overview

Laryngitis is inflammation of the voice box from overuse, irritation, or infection.

Symptoms

The voice sounds hoarse. Laryngitis may last for a short time (acute) or be ongoing (chronic).

Treatments

Acute laryngitis usually resolves on its own. With chronic laryngitis, treatment is aimed at the underlying condition, such as heartburn or smoking.
