Loneliness


When to make a doctor’s appointment

Make an appointment to see a doctor if:

  • Sadness persists for several weeks or longer
  • No interest in activities that once were pleasurable
  • Unable to sleep or enjoy participating in activities of daily living

Self-care

Make new friends by volunteering, attending community or religious events, or taking a class. Spend time with family or friends and try to go out for a meal, coffee or a walk.

When to seek immediate medical care

Seek emergency help if:

  • Thinking about suicide
