When to make a doctor’s appointment
Make an appointment to see a doctor if:
- Accompanied by a tick bite or rash
- Worsens with exercise and resolves with rest, especially in the calves
- Redness and swelling
- Follows a change in medication or dosage
Self-care
Self-care options include rest, ice, compression, and elevation (RICE). Over-the-counter acetaminophen (Tylenol) and ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin IB, others) can help, too.
When to seek immediate medical care
See a doctor immediately if:
- Trouble breathing or dizziness
- Extreme muscle weakness
- High fever and stiff neck
