When to make a doctor’s appointment

Make an appointment to see a doctor if:

  • Headache, numbness, or tingling
  • Persists for several weeks
  • Worsens despite self-treatment
  • Radiates down one or both arms or legs

Self-care

Self-care includes ice pack alternating with heat several times daily for 30 minutes, gentle stretching, and massage. Gentle exercise and good posture helps with prevention.

When to seek immediate medical care

  • Weakness in an arm or leg
  • Trouble walking
  • High fever
