Neuropathic arthropathy


Overview

With Charcot joint (neuropathic arthropathy), nerve damage from diabetes causes joint deterioration. It usually affects the feet.

Symptoms

Symptoms include numbness, tingling, swelling and deformity of the affected joints.

Treatments

Early detection can limit deterioration. Treatments include shoe inserts (orthotics) and limiting weight-bearing activities.
