Nosebleed


When to make a doctor’s appointment

Make an appointment to see a doctor if:

  • Occurs repeatedly without a history of trauma

Self-care

Sit upright, leaning slightly forward, and pinch both nostrils shut for five to 10 minutes. Repeat as needed until bleeding stops.

When to seek immediate medical care

See a doctor immediately if:

  • Severe and profuse bleeding
  • Continues for more than 30 minutes
  • Child under 2 years old
  • Follows an injury or trauma
  • Taking blood-thinning drugs
