Otitis media

Overview

An "ear infection" (acute otitis media) occurs in the air-filled space behind the eardrum (the middle ear). It's usually from bacteria or viruses.

Symptoms

Ear pain, drainage of fluid from the ear, and reduced hearing are some symptoms.

Treatments

Most ear infections go away on their own. Some require antibiotics.
