Purpuric fever
Overview
The disease usually begins with an episode of pink eye and, in a small percentage of children, progresses to purpuric fever. The vast majority of the cases have occurred in Brazil.
Symptoms
Signs and symptoms include a sudden, high fever, vomiting, and belly pain, followed by a skin rash.
Treatments
Prompt treatment with antibiotics may stop the disease from progressing and reduce the chances of death.
