Rectocele


Overview

Childbirth and other processes that put pressure on the tissue wall can lead to a rectocele.

Symptoms

Symptoms include a soft bulge of tissue in the vagina that may or may not protrude through the vaginal opening. It may also cause bleeding or difficulty having a bowel movement.

Treatments

Treatment includes Kegel exercises, hormone therapy, devices in the vagina to hold the tissues in place, or surgery.
