Scaphoid fracture


Overview

Scaphoid fracture is a common wrist fracture of the bone (scaphoid) that's below the thumb. It can break when someone uses his or her open palm to stop a fall. It's more common in men ages 20 to 30 who play sports.

Symptoms

Symptoms include pain and swelling that last more than a day.

Treatments

It's usually treated with a cast. Sometimes, surgery is needed.
