Schistosomiasis
Overview
Schistosomiasis infection occurs from contact with water in which certain snails live. The snails, and the parasitic worms that live in them, are found in parts of Africa, South America, the Caribbean, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia.
Symptoms
A rash, itchy skin, fever, chills, cough, headache, belly pain, joint pain, and muscle aches are symptoms.
Treatments
A medication taken for one to two days can clear the infection.
