When to make a doctor’s appointment

Make an appointment to see a doctor if:

  • First-time seizure
  • Increased seizure frequency
  • Bothersome medication side effects

Self-care

Keep a written log of seizure frequency and medication doses to share with the doctor.

When to seek immediate medical care

See a doctor immediately if:

  • Seizure symptoms last more than five minutes
  • Second seizure starts right after first ends
  • Injured during seizure
  • High fever
  • Pregnant or have diabetes
