Strabismus


Overview

Crossed eyes (strabismus) is usually caused by poor eye muscle control. It may also be caused by extreme farsightedness.

Symptoms

In addition to misalignment of the eyes, symptoms in children may include squinting or complaints of seeing double.

Treatments

Crossed eyes can usually be corrected with early treatment. Treatment options to align the eyes include special eyewear, use of an eye patch, and surgery.
