Toxic shock syndrome

Overview

Toxic shock syndrome is a rare, life-threatening complication resulting from toxins produced by certain bacterial infections. Risk factors include recent surgery, open wounds and the use of superabsorbent tampons.

Symptoms

A high fever, low blood pressure, vomiting and rash are some symptoms.

Treatments

Treatment includes antibiotics and possible surgery.
