Vomiting
When to make a doctor’s appointment
Make an appointment to see a doctor if:
- Adult can't keep fluid down for 12 hours or more
- Child can't keep fluid down for eight hours or more
- Excessive thirst, infrequent urination, lightheadedness, or other symptoms of dehydration
Self-care
Self-care includes taking small sips of liquid to help prevent dehydration. Once fluids stay down, try easy-to-digest solid foods, such as toast, crackers, or gelatin.
When to seek immediate medical care
See a doctor immediately if:
- Accompanied by chest pain, blurry vision, confusion, high fever, a stiff neck, or other serious symptom
