It's not clear what causes granuloma annulare. Sometimes it's triggered by:
- Animal or insect bites
- Infections, such as hepatitis
- Tuberculin skin tests
- Vaccinations
- Sun exposure
- Minor skin injuries
- Drugs
Granuloma annulare is not contagious.
